Dog Sled Rides

Sugardogs dogsled rides

Sugar Dogs Adventure Company is coming back to Kearney to offer Dog Sled Rides on Saturday February 4th from 11a.m. to 3p.m. This will give you a taste of what dog sledding is like. Ed Schmidt of Sugar Dogs Adventure Company will be arriving in Kearney Saturday morning with a couple of expert handlers and 14 very excited dogs that can’t wait to take you for a ride.

Ed has over 20 years of experience in the dog sled industry. Ten years ago he started his own business called Sugar Dogs Adventure Company. He provides specialized tours from one hour to full days. He has grown his business and now has 33 dogs running for him.

It all started when Ed asked his parents for a cat, then one day his Dad came home with a husky puppy. What was with that? But he has never regretted it. He left home for the Big City and it was the love for his dog that brought him back to the north. He started out with skijoring, before he realized it was skijoring. He just knew the dog needed to run and he couldn’t just let him go, so he tied the dog to himself and put on a pair of skis.

Kids to Adults everyone is welcome to go for a ride. Cost is $10 for children and $15 for Adults. You can pay cash at the event or purchase your ride at the souvenir booth in the Kearney Community Centre.

These exciting rides will take place on a groomed trail behind Kearney O’Neils on Highway 518East, on the left just before the Kearney Community Centre when coming into town. Check out Ed’s website at sugardogs-adventure.beep.com or their facebook page. A reminder to all that your pets are best left at home this weekend. Pets are not permitted in the Dog Sled Ride area in or out of your vehicle.
