Dog Sled Race Events & Activities
There’s lots happening on race day for mushers and visitors alike. Below is a list of some of the events that are scheduled for the weekend of the Kearney Dog Sled Races.
Food & Beverages
Kearney Trailside Cookhouse
Breakfast, lunch and dinner available at the Kearney Community Centre, 8 Main St, for both Saturday and Sunday of Race Weekend, provided by Kearney Trailside Cookhouse. Both buffet or individual meals available, including take-out, snacks, hot & cold beverages and vegan options, with breakfast starting at 6AM, and staying open for dinner until 7PM on Saturday. Dinner on Sunday is our Awards Banquet, where Lasagna will be served starting at 4PM. Everyone is welcome!Buffet Prices: $11 for adults, $8 for children 6-12, children under 6 eat free
A portion of profits for the weekend from the Community Centre Kitchen will be donated to support the Kearney Dog Sled Committee.
H White Memorial Legion
Come in and check out the full service restaurant The Grumpy Veteran, located inside the Kearney Legion at 58 Park St. Home cooked meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner, at legion prices with a large dining room. No Membership or affiliation required to enjoy the restaurant or LLBO licenced pub. Large groups welcome and child friendly.
Again this year Saturday’s musical entertainment will be supplied by Ol’ Stampy aka Jeff Stamp from 1-3 p.m. You can check out their music at:
Making a return visit, on Sunday, listen to the sounds of Tobin Spring from 1-3PM.
Market Place Vendors
In the Gymnasium at the Community Centre, our Market Place showcases local vendors and also includes Kearney Dog Sled Races Souvenirs.

Rusty the Clown & Melissa Sohm Face Painting
Always great fun, our friend Rusty the Clown and Face painter Melissa will be back to entertain the kids (or kids at heart!)
Come and check out our fantastic silent auction. Great items available, donated by a wide variety of sponsors, our auction runs both Saturday and Sunday during Race weekend. Please pick up items won before the Closing Ceremonies, Sunday evening.
Stop by our Children’s Activities Area across the street from the Kearney Post Office. We are planning some fun, outdoor winter activities, or the children can warm up with a cup of hot chocolate.
Supervised Children’s Activities available Saturday 11am – 2pm & Sunday 12pm – 2pm
Jake Rhodes from JR Carving will be completing a chain saw carving demonstration near the community centre at Base Camp Outfitters on Main St
Powassan’s Matthew Larivee, from Scouts Canada will be demonstrating how to build a Yurt near the Children’s Activities (across from the Post Office), complete with wood stove – come and see this unique structure used by nomads worldwide and for winter camping activities!
Dog Sled Rides
Sugar Dogs Adventure Company from Sundridge will be returning again this year to provide Dog Sled rides on both Saturday and Sunday of Race Weekend! Owner Ed Schmidt has been in business since 2005, providing dog sledding services to aspiring mushers of all ages. Check out his website at www.sugardogs-adventure.beep.com or their facebook page. Rides will be held behind the Kearney O’Neils on Hwy 518 E, and will be limited to the time frames indicated – don’t wait until the last minute so you don’t miss out!
