Dog Sled Race Events & Activities
There’s lots happening on race day for mushers and visitors alike. Below is a list of some of the events that are scheduled for the weekend of the Kearney Dog Sled Races.
Food & Beverages
‘Kearney Trailside Cookhouse’
Opening at 7AM, a hot buffet breakfast and lunch will be served on both Saturday & Sunday at the Kearney Community Centre, 8 Main Street. Also, please join us for a Lasagna Dinner during the Closing Ceremonies on Sunday evening.
Roast Beef Dinner
Join us at the Kearney Legion, 58 Park Road, for a full Roast Beef dinner prepared by the Grumpy Veteran; complete with mashed potatoes, veggies, gravy, served with au jus and horseradish, and with a variety of desserts, tea and coffee to follow! It all takes place Saturday evening (5pm to 7pm) $20 for Adults / $10 for Children under 12. Tickets available at the door!
Again this year Saturday’s musical entertainment will be supplied by Ol’ Stampy aka Jeff Stamp and Doug McLean from 1-4p.m. You can check out their music at:
On Sunday listen to the sounds of Tobin Springs from 1:00 – 3:00p.m.
Market Place Vendors
In the Gymnasium at the Community Centre, our Market Place showcases local vendors and also includes Kearney Dog Sled Races Souvenirs.

Rusty the Clown
Great fun for the entire family our ol’ pal Rusty the Clown will be back again.
Come and check out our fantastic silent auction at the Kearney Community Center. Great items available, donated by a wide variety of sponsors, our auction runs both Saturday and Sunday during Race weekend. Please pick up items won before the Closing Ceremonies, Sunday evening.
Family Skate & Bonfire
Friday evening, the Kearney Lions Club gets Race weekend started with a Family Skate at the outdoor Kearney arena, complete with a bonfire provided by Marshall Lumber Mill, Emsdale to warm your hands.
Stop by our Children’s Activities Area across the street from the Kearney Post Office. The Scarborough Outdoor Education School staff, with help from Volunteers from ClayMar Electric, are planning some fun, outdoor winter activities … snowshoeing, cooking bannocks on the fire, or warm up with a cup of “Bush” tea or hot chocolate.

Dog Sled Rides
SugarDogs Adventure Company from Sundridge are coming back again this year to provide dog sled rides during the Saturday of Race Weekend! You could have an opportunity to go for a ride Saturday February 4th between 11am and 3pm behind the Kearney O’Neils on Hwy 518 E, on the left before the Kearney Community Centre. Owner Ed Schmidt has been in business since 2005, providing dogsledding services for aspiring mushers of all ages. Check out his website at www.sugardogs-adventure.beep.com or their facebook page. Rides will be limited to the timeframes indicated – don’t wait until the last minute so you don’t miss out!
