KDSR 2024 Schedule Changes

What a winter we have had. Races all over the continent have had to cancel or alter their courses this year with such unseasonably warm weather. KDSR has faired well in comparison to many of the other races, but we have taken some hits and have been forced to make some changes to our race weekend schedule.

The largest change is that our 8 dog teams will be running 12 miles instead of 20 miles. A significant portion of the course we’ve worked on for several months was dependent on a series of lakes freezing. Presently 3 of the 4 lakes we were to utilize have about 3 inches of ice at best with several inches of slush and muck on top. The conditions are simply unsafe.

Because of this change we have also had to alter the schedule of classes for the weekend for the safety of our skijoring mushers. 8 dog teams will no longer be out on the extended trail section, so we do not have enough time to get skiers through the course before being bombarded by large teams coming in. Skijoring has been moved to the afternoon so that we can run our series of groomers and packers and make them a nice smooth trail to ski on.

The schedule changes are reflected here and on our website. Exact start times of all classes will be posted on our website Friday February 9th after 8:00pm when entries close. These changes will allow us to ensure EVERYONE has the best possible chance at a fun, fast, and safe run on the trails.

We are at the mercy of Mother Nature, and boy does she have a temper this year! Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding.
