2015 Desiree Nickerson Photography

Photo submission from the 2015 Kearney Dog Sled Races by Desiree Nickerson Photography.
For the first time being at the Kearney Races specifically to shoot photos, I was impressed with the professionalism each volunteer had throughout the weekend. The layout was nicely done, and it was a great event! Look forward to going back again in 2016.
Ever since I was little my love of pets and photography were woven together! Whether it was taking photos of my friends or running my own make-believe pet store in our basement, I have always loved the bond between people and pets. My parents recognized this passion, and encouraged me to follow my dreams. Today, I still share my love of photography with my dad, while my mom continues to be my #1 fan.
As a photographer, I believe that you should not only have a passion for what you do, but also combine it with training and education so that you can offer your clients the very best. In 2009 I graduated from Sheridan College with a diploma in Media Arts. This program taught me all about the process of creating a movie from start to end, as well as the planning and editing process to ensure your audience is pulled in to the story. It has played a huge part in my photography style as well, since I believe every photo should tell a story.
Since 2009, I worked hard to establish myself as a professional photographer and had the opportunity to work with many people and their furry friends in both portrait sessions and at special events. I take photos in all sorts of environments and conditions: from the balmy weather in the Philippines; to a blizzard in northern Ontario; to rain and fog in southern Quebec.
Some of the highlights of my special events, so far, include:
- IFSS World Championships of Dryland Racing in Bristol, Quebec
- Canadian Ringsport Championships in London, Ontario
- Pet Photos in collaboration with Scotiabank to raise money for the Humane Society in Windsor, Ontario
Through the number of photo sessions I have done with dogs, cats, horses, and a few ferrets, I strive to create unique and beautiful images that really capture your pets’ personality, and the loving bond you both share.
